Stew has always been an independent DIY guy. Making due with minimal materials and reusing and recycling is a normal part of life. Hobbies include home improvements, ornamental gardening, food gardening, antiquing, cooking, working with wood and working on tractors and lawn mowers and swimming.
Stewarts work experience starts at an early age. At fourteen he started as an entrepreneur delivering papers on a bicycle. Next as a student in high school, he drove a school bus. Then worked various summer jobs while attending college at Ga. Tech. These jobs ranged from building butler steel buildings ang grain dryers to pulling wire for an electrician. He worked for UPS for one quarter until he decided school was more important than money.
After graduation he followed his father and started work in the textile business. He worked for Reeves brothers, Amoco Fabrics and Fibers, Kyser-Roth, Wellington Synthetic Fibers and Homemaker Industries. These jobs ranged from a floor supervisor, development engineer, quality control manager, department manager and plant manager. Fortunately, the last job he worked for was sold and moved to Mexico.
At this point, Stew changed career paths and moved into construction. He worked for O.L. Thompson as a concrete superintendent. In 2004, he started working in the home improvement/remodeling business with Window World and has remained. He is a licensed general residential and light commercial contractor in Georgia and a qualifying agent in South Carolina. He is Lead Renovation and Repair certified for the Georgia EPD. He is certified for window installation by AWDI and vinyl installation by VSI.
His personal achievements include numerous safety and production awards for manufacturing. Re-engineering textile construction saving millions of dollars in raw material consumption. He helped develop a patented anti-microbial carpet backing used in hospitals, schools, health care facilities, hotels and cruise boats. He also developed a hollow polypropylene carpet fiber that reduces material consumption by 10%.
Currently, he specializes in home improvements utilizing high energy efficient products that are durable. Specialties include window replacement, siding replacement and installation, durable entry doors, window treatments, sunrooms and porch enclosures. This helps homeowners reduce the cost of operating and keeping a home in great shape.
